On this day in 1835, Eduard Strauss was born.
Let me introduce him to you.
Eduard was the third son of the man whom we know nowadays as Johann Strauss Father.
He was supposed to become a diplomat, but the busy schedule of the family orchestra made him take up a musical career at the side of his brothers Johann and Josef. He was a very accomplished conductor and after the death of Josef, Eduard became the head of the Strauss orchestra until he disbanded it in 1901.
He wrote more than 300 pieces and is mainly known for his polkas.
In 1863 he married Maria Klenkhart. They had two sons.
Eduard died at his home in the Reichratsstrasse in Vienna’s first district on 28 December 1916.
Sorry for the unclear photo. It is one I took at one of the presentations this weekend.
